For our club's District Grant project this year we worked with the Bob Marshall Wilderness Foundation on two trail clearing projects. On July 18, six Kalispell Daybreak Rotarians and one Rotarian family member cleared approximately two miles of the Tunnel Creek Trail on the edge of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. During the one-day project, the team removed 25 downed trees from the trail. From July 30 through August 5, five Daybreak Rotarians and four additional family members completed a six-day backcountry service project along Prairie Creek near Pretty Prairie Cabin. The team cleared approximately three miles of trail, removing 191 downed trees using hand tools, including handsaws. The group also completed hazardous fuels mitigation and vegetation clearing around the historic Pretty Prairie Forest Service cabin. Together, the two projects improved approximately five miles of trail and removed more than 215 downed trees, restoring access and improving safety for visitors to the Bob Marshall Wilderness.
